Robert L. Carson, Jr., is a native of Fort Worth, Texas.  He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1954 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree.  He served three years as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force.

In the early 1960's, Mr. Carson joined the insurance firm of Wm. Rigg Company.  In 1970, he started specializing in the energy industry, attending the University of Texas' Petex drilling schools and the University of Oklahoma's Well Control school.  His clients were various oil and gas operators, including the firm that became the largest drilling fund in the nation.

In 1980, Mr. Carson and his associate at Wm. Rigg Company, Phil Luebbehusen, formed Carson, Luebbehusen and Burk, Inc.  During the 1980's, he was involved in numerous well control, platform and liability losses in the U.S., Canada, Gulf of Mexico, South America, Egypt and the Pacific Rim.  From 1981 to 1985, he served on the Board of Directors of a Denver oil company that was listed on the American Stock Exchange.

In 1989, Mr. Carson and his son, Robert L. (Robby) Carson, III, formed Carson Associates, Inc. and the insurance agency grew to one with over 150 oil and gas operators and drilling contractors.  In early 1996, Mr. Carson sold his interest in Carson Associates, Inc. and became a consultant.  In the latter part of 1996, Mr. Carson once again joined Wm. Rigg Company to establish an Energy Department and to direct the Risk Management and Insurance operations in this area.

April 1, 2000, Mr. Carson joined his former partner, Phil Luebbehusen, just as Luebbehusen merged his agency into Higginbotham and Associates.  They are now the Energy Division of Higginbotham and Associates.
